Gretton School in Cambridgeshire is part of the Cavendish Education Group, a family of day and boarding schools focusing exclusively on children and young people with unique learning profiles. Gretton School is a day and residential school for students between the ages of 5 – 19 with a diagnosis of Autism or Aspergers Syndrome.
The school initially approached Tough Furniture for chairs. Head Teacher Beth Elkins explains “We found the Tough Furniture company by accident because we were initially looking for some chairs for our SEN provision….but we have stayed with them on purpose as everything we have ever bought from them has been stylish, of excellent quality and robust”. After purchasing the chairs, Gretton School went on to purchase some of our highly popular workstations. These workstations are specially designed to provide an enclosed and distraction reducing workspace which is ideal for students with a diagnosis of Autism
In 2022 the school started to plan a refurbishment project and approached Tough Furniture. “They were our go-to suppliers” explains Beth Elkins “because we know we are making an investment in something that will last the school a long time and give the students the learning environment they deserve – safe attractive and easy to maintain – so their classrooms always look fabulous.”
After looking at what Tough Furniture could offer for both the classroom and other less formal rooms, the school selected a number of furniture items to enhance the overall learning environment but still stand up to the rigours of classroom life. These included:
- Workstations
- Lockable Tray Storage Units
- Heavy Duty Rectangular Tables
- A range of End and Centre Units from our Burley range which can be configured to provide various sizes of sofas
- Bean Bags
- Classroom chairs
It’s been a pleasure working with the school on this, the first stage, of a three-part refurbishment project and we look forward to seeing what the next two stages might bring. It’s always pleasing to receive feedback from our customers. Headteacher Beth Elkins finished up by saying “Thank you Tough Furniture! Highly recommended for any school, but especially one as wonderful of ours!”
