Chalet Primary School – Swindon
The Chalet School in Swindon is a Special Primary School which currently has 57 pupils with severe and complex learning needs including autistic spectrum conditions.
The building layout has fortunately enabled the school to create valuable ‘Time Out Alcoves’ – small rooms without doors. These provide safe spaces that either children can choose to go to or staff can take children to in order to keep them and others safe, when the need may arise.
Tough Furniture supplied very customised high-durability seating to fulfil the potential of the alcoves. We adapted our standard ‘Burley’ seating, both lengthening the units to fill the space and also altering the proportions of seats and backs to maximise the cushioning against the walls for children of different ages and sizes in the different alcoves.
The school also bought for outside use our attractive and very rugged ‘Colstey’ sofa seat.
