This large-scale project encompassed the complete design, manufacture, and installation of specialist furniture across 64 bedrooms within an acute mental health setting. Each bedroom was fitted with robust wardrobes, desks, storage, and mirrors, with several rooms specifically adapted for accessibility.
Beyond bedrooms, the scope extended to thoughtfully designed communal spaces, including patient kitchenettes with HTM63 worktops, lounges featuring bespoke media units and upholstered window seating, multifaith rooms, patient property storage with lockers, and a vibrant social zone with banquette seating bays and a statement hospitality island.
Specialist areas such as art rooms and hoist access zones were also furnished with tailored solutions, incorporating dedicated storage and a hoist cupboard surround. Additionally, staff areas were comprehensively equipped with kitchens, storage rooms with racking, cantilever office desks, and welcoming reception and communal spaces.
Given the project’s scale and complexity, two specification levels were established to align with different risk profiles across the building. This strategic approach allowed us to deliver enhanced safety features in high-risk patient areas, while value-engineered solutions were integrated into lower-risk, staff-only zones – ensuring overall efficiency without compromising quality.
All furniture was manufactured to Tough Furniture’s high-performance standards, with Type 1 areas sealed using Arbokol to maximise durability and tamper resistance. Collaboration remained at the heart of the project, as we worked closely with stakeholders to ensure all fixtures, fittings, and finishes met precise project tolerances. By sharing specialist insights throughout, we optimised construction methods for long-term safety and resilience.’
The successful delivery of this project was made possible through the expertise and dedication of our in-house teams. From meticulous project management ensuring seamless coordination, to site presence and management maintaining efficiency and safety, every discipline played a vital role. Our approval drawings provided precision and clarity, guiding the specialist fitters in executing installations to the highest standards. Meanwhile, our UK manufacturing team ensured that every piece of furniture met rigorous quality criteria. By bringing together these disciplines, we achieved a solution that balances quality, durability, and thoughtful design—creating a safe and functional environment tailored to the needs of its users.
